IQWEST has designed, created and implemented highly effective and often unique technology based solutions in support of the litigation discovery process for over six years. Our technology focus and expertise has enabled the Company to take full advantage of a new generation of computational linguistics software for concept analysis, statistically supported machine language translation tools, Bayesian categorization algorithms, "meaning" based concept search engines and rich client server application services, to name but a few. As discovery has been extended to Electronically Stored Information (ESI), the volume of discoverable material has mushroomed making our types of capabilities imperative to law firms and corporate legal departments involved in litigation. As the new civil procedure rules have shrunken the permissible time for responding to discovery requests, our clients are faced with the task of reviewing 10 to 20 times more information in less than half of the time they were previously allotted under older rules. The Company is at the forefront of this new generation of technology and has established a market position as an innovation leader within the AmLaw 100 law firms and has a fast growing presence in middle market firms as well. Much of our time spent over the last six years has been invested in creating IQWEST's brand as the innovation leader in our space and it is of course very exciting for us as we watch the market embrace our solutions!

For example, our algorithms could identify a letter by certain characteristics…but a letter agreement would also be identified as a letter! This led us to the inescapable conclusion that we must continue to rely on human indexing for these important key fields. The decision was to refine the human coding process in ways to improve accuracy and reduce costs, adding technology where practical. In these efforts we have been extraordinarily successful – so much so that our costs and turnaround time of projects are better than those of companies that perform autocoding only! And, our accuracy is incredible. We recognize that to Trial Lawyers and professional Litigation Support teams, it is the instant access to relevant documents that is often the key to favorable settlements or judgments. Providing this access in a timely and cost efficient manner is our only focus and our unvarying mantra! To this extent, we continue to strive for technologically enhanced ways to improving our services. Founded in 2001 by Joseph Thorpe & Pete Afrasiabi, IQWEST Information Technologies, Inc. mastered OCR technology in ways that are still unique only to IQWEST. Since our OCR technology is so incredibly accurate, it was our belief that the indexing of litigation documents could be completely automated. We felt that by adding the element of autocoding, we would not only be able to concisely extract surnames from clean text (to provide a needed index to Names mentioned) but also extract Document Type, Author, Recipient, Subject/Title and other relevant key index fields. We perfected this process to accuracy of approximately 70% of our documents; the problem was that we couldn’t tell you which of the remaining 30% were wrong!
